This is an awesome film....well worth watching. I highly recommend taking the Rockey Mountaineer train from Vancouver to Calgary or Banf....it passes over the Canadian Rockies through many beautiful scenic areas similar to those shown in this film. My dad and I did the trip about 15 years ago, it was awesome. Before taking the RMR we went up and spend 4 days behind steam on a steam photo charter on the White Pass & Yukon. We also took a ferry over to Victoria, BC, while there for two days, we rode the Via Rail RDC Budd units from Victoria north to Couteney and back....a trip that I think is no longer available...I believe it was then called "The Malahat"
What a cool film. I have been to Revelstoke, and explored all across Central. ...South Central and western BC....made trips out there twice on Steam Railroading & Photography vacations. One trip we rode 385 miles behind steam from the then BC Rail Steam shops in North Vancouver to Kelly Lake and back...a three day trip with two overnights in Lillooette. We also hit other steam railroads all across BC, Alberta (Alberta Prairie RR), the one trip we rode the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Alberta, the other trip we flew up to Whitehorse did a 5 day steam special on the White Pass and Yukon. we also spent three days in Victoria on the one trip, rode the Via Raik RDC from Victoria Northbound and back...all amazing rail adventures. Rode the old electric streetcars in Vancouver....
Absolutely. MOW, signal maintainers, track/switch maintainers, trainmen etc.. don’t quote me on this because I have no experience with TWC-ABS or similar block systems but I don’t believe station operators are around anymore on class 1’s just because of the communication technology we have now I would believe a system like that is obsolete. Im pretty sure in foreign countries they hand off authority limits/warrants just like in the video, and I don’t believe they have track walkers like they show in the video but again I could be wrong.
I've been looking for this for years. So glad to find it! So many memories...
Great video. Very informative for us modelers. Thanks for posting. Cheers from Texas.

The NFB, the producer of this film, has a number of other films available, closely or loosely related in subject, on its web-site.
Do some of these jobs still exsist
